Social Media

Hello to the one person that actually reads this! Welcome to my last post ever!!!! (Yay) The assigned topic this week is whether social media has increased or decreased human interaction with others. Is social media a good thing or would friendships be better if social media wasn’t used at all.
I will be focusing on a web-based social media, as I believe that phones are necessary.

Let’s start!

Our modern day society requires us to use social media to contact with each other, but what if we didn’t? I know what you’re thinking, Facebook.

Facebook is the most common social media website with about 30% of the population of earth signed up, it would be hard not to join the trend, but when you think about it you could have more meaningful friendships and relationships if Facebook never existed. If Facebook never existed you would be forced to keep a few close friends instead of 1000 people you barely know. With more meaningful friendships you could have more fun and interact on a more personal way. With Facebook, and other social media you can’t invite everybody because of the awkward conversation’s that would spark “nice picture on your profile…”
“Thanks my mum took it, it was so nice of you to like and share it…” it’s just plain weird.

Social media may be good for long distance friendships, but wouldn’t you rather be there instead? With no social media you would have to go and talk to them using proper language instead of “lol”.  Another thing is that there would be less bullying as they would be too scared to offend them to their face. Social media has also affected the business world; a part of the job application process is a background check (usually Facebook) that denies lots of candidates.

Social media has affected the way humans act in a drastic way. We no longer keep friendships for more than 20 years unless they’re your true best friend. Humans now compare themselves to another in the form of: friends, followers and subscribers, which in my opinion are one of the most strangest things about us. In my opinion social media has ruined the physical aspect of friendships and possibly ruined the way humans interact.
