Hey everybody, this week’s blog will be about a review of a famous
game series. Its latest release was the end of the saga. You finally kill
Vladimir Makarov, an international terrorist who started WW3.
You guessed it, I will be reviewing the popular Call of Duty Series:
Modern Warfare.
Modern Warfare 1
It all starts with you (John “Soap” Mactavish) being recruited into
22nd SAS division, under the command of Captain Price you are to
hunt down and kill Al-Asad (also an international terrorist), In the 2nd
mission you save Nikolai (your Russian informant). You kill Al-Asad in his safe
house after he kills 30,000 soldiers by detonating a nuke during operation
Desert Storm. Once you kill him you find out that a worse international
terrorist Imran Zakhaev was ordering him around and you are ordered to kill him
as well. He launches 2 nukes at the coast of America after taking over a launch
facility. You overrun the launch facility, detonate the nukes mid air, and then
get in a car chase after him. A chopper’s missiles overrun your squad and then
Imran’s forces attack your position. You get saved by the Russian Military.
Captain price slides a pistol over to you and you kill Imran Zakhaev and his
two bodyguards in a “Last stand” kind of position.
Modern Warfare 2
You are Gary “Roach” Sanderson a new addition to Task force 141, an
elite squadron put together by General Shepherd. After Imran Zakhaev’s death and
him being named a hero by the Russian Federation, One of his lieutenants
“Vladimir Makarov” takes control and launches a series of terrorist attacks in
retaliation to Zakhaev’s death. A CIA operative, who you play for 2 missions,
goes on an undercover mission with Vladimir Makarov to Zakhaev International
Airport, where you and Makarov’s men massacre over 200 innocent civilians.
Makarov is aware of the CIA’s plan and shoots the undercover agent leaving 200
dead Russians at the feet of an American. Russia, angry about the massacre that
had occurred, invades America in retaliation (WW3). General Shepherd betrays the task
force after they retrieve some important intelligence on Vladimir Makarov’s
location. Shepherd kills Roach and Ghost (Another important character), Price
and Soap go into hiding whilst trying to get revenge on Shepherd. Price and
Soap contact Makarov and get some intelligence on Shepherd’s location. Price
and Soap quickly move to the location and proceed to get revenge on Shepherd.
They are spotted and General Shepherd tries to escape. Both parties get in a
Zodiac (A speedboat) and there is a boat chase. Eventually Shepherd gets in a
helicopter. Price then shoots it down with a grenade launcher. Price and Soap
go over a waterfall and find Shepherds chopper. Soap tries to kill Shepherd
with a knife but fails and gets stabbed by Shepherd. Price then gets in a
fistfight with Shepherd. Soap kills Shepherd with the knife that he was stabbed
with by throwing it at Shepherds head. Nikolai then brings his chopper over and
saves you.
Modern Warfare 3
Soap has been stabbed, and Nikolai has taken them to a safe house in
Northern India where a doctor tries to help him. Makarov’s men try overrunning
the compound to kill Price and Soap (tie up loose ends). They break into the
compound and there is a massive firefight in the courtyard. You escape with the
help of Yuri (you will be him for most of the game), an ex-spetsnaz also bent
on killing Makarov. You escape with the help of an ROV (remote operated vehicle). You then
play personal from the Russian presidents plane, where Makarovs men overrun the
plane and crash it. During extraction of the president, Makarov kills you. You then follow leads from Yuri and MacMillan
(Price’s former mentor). Taskforce 141 attempt to Assassinate Makarov at a
gathering with his men. They are betrayed after one of their friends is
captured. Makarov detonates the building and detonates the sniper spot where
Yuri and Soap are. Soap and Yuri fall from the top of a church. Yuri, Price and
Soap manage to get out of the kill zone and get to a restaurant being run by
the rebellion. Soap dies with his last words being “Makarov knows Yuri” Price
punches Yuri down a flight of stairs. Yuri explains how he knows Makarov,
Makarov and Yuri were Zakhaev’s escorts at the arms deal in MW1. Zakhaev never
forgot about what they did for him and he gave them money and power, Yuri also
explains that it was actually Makarov who detonated the nuke during Desert
Storm. Yuri regretted helping Makarov and tried to prevent the Airport incident
but is found out and shot whilst being restrained by his other men. Taskforce
141(Price and Yuri) then raid a castle in Prague to get information. They find
out the Russian President has been captured by Makarov and are trying to get
the launch codes. Taskforce 141(Price and Yuri) and Delta Squad (The most elite
squad from the Marines) rescue the Russian president and his daughter from a
diamond mine. WW3 ends. Taskforce 141 proceeds to Hotel Oasis, where Makarov is staying. Price and Yuri assault
it with LMG’s and Juggernaut suits to kill Makarov who is on the top floor. A
knife on the top floor injures Yuri as Price runs to catch Makarov who is
escaping in his helicopter. Price jumps onto the chopper and crashes the
chopper onto the top floor. Makarov gets out and holds a gun to Price’s head
and Yuri shoots him, buying Price enough time to get up and wrap a metal cord
around Makarovs neck. Price smashes the glass and Makarov is hanged.
My Review:
I believe that the Modern Warfare (MW) storyline is a bit
unrealistic. MW1 has a completely different story and I believe that it doesn’t
really tie in with MW2. MW2 and MW3 match up completely but has an unrealistic
war scenario (no other countries are involved?) The weapons are overpowered and
the Multiplayer experience can be harsh as there are 10-year-old kids swearing
constantly. Makarov has more forces than an entire army and Nikolai has way to
many vehicles. The controls are quite spaced out. The fact that you can pull
out your knife in .5 seconds is unrealistic. The weapons are over powered. Overall
a good series but a bit strange and should not be used for reference in a war
situation.
Thanks for Reading!
